Hawkins of Faceville, was instantly killed. Ben Wells, another occupant of the car, died Sunday night at the Bainbridge hospital and Sam Wells, still another occupant of the auto, died Monday afternoon of fatal injuries about the head and spinal column. The car was completely demolished and all the occupants except Worth Wells, nephew of Ben and Sam Wells, were hurled into the air a great distance, Hawkins body being found 90 years from the crossing. The dirt road near the point where the accident occurred, about four miles from Bainbridge, runs parallel with the railroad for a distance of a mile, when it crosses the railroad at a sharp angle. Worth Wells, the only occupant of the car who was not killed, states that the party was coming to Bainbridge from Climax. It was difficult to see a train approaching from the rear, he said, and just as they reached the crossing, Sam Wells was the train and gave warning. Worth Wells made a quick leap, just as the train struck the car and thereby escaped with slight injuries. Ben and Sam Wells each leave a widow and six children. C. E. Hawkins is survived by a widow and a little daughter. All three men were prominent citizens of Decatur county. A shocking feature of the accident was that Ben Well's little daughter was on the train going from Climax to Montgomery when the fatal crash came. The funeral of Ben Wells took place at Faceville Monday afternoon. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
