Cairo Messenger, April 3, 1914
Mr. D. H. Ponder, who departed this life March 24th, 1914 was born in Cobb 
County, Ga., March 18th, 1837.  He was 77 years and 11 days of age.

He came to this county at the close of the Civil war, where he met and married 
Sarah C. Connell, December 23rd, 1867.  Of this union there were six sons, four 
daughters, and a heart broken wife to mourn his loss.  He also leaves one 
brother, three sisters and forty odd grand children.  He was ever a true and 
loving father and friend to every one.  To know him was to love him and our 
loss is his eternal gain.

Mr. Ponder was a great sufferer for a number of years, but God sustained him 
through every trial.

He was laid to rest Wednesday morning in the Trinity Church Cemetery in the 
presence of a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Elder Wm. Hollingsworth.
