The deceased was born in Grady County (then Decatur County) on January 7, 1871, the son of the late Daniel H. and Sara Connell Ponder. His entire life was spent in this community. He was a member of the Trinity Primitive Baptist Church and lived a devoted Christian life, faithful to his church and its activities. He was always ready to serve his community when needed. His widow, the former Miss Kate Martha King, survives; there are also six daughters, Mrs. Louie Hughes and Mrs. Prassie Burks, Cairo; Mrs. Mary Finney, Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. Charlie Pyles and Mrs. Vivian Allen, Whigham; and Mrs. Paul Burnum, Climax; two sons, Alton and Judson Ponder, Grady County; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Brinson, Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. Luther Mobley and Mrs. Mamie Godwin, Whigham; Mrs. Oscar Mobley, Milledgeville; and four brothers: Jim, R. D. and J. D. Ponder, of Whigham; and J. P. Ponder, Cairo; and twenty two grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Trinity Primitive Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Elder Carlton Todd and the Rev. James Hendrix officiating. Interment was in Trinity cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Carl Ponder, Marvin Ponder, Junior Ponder, Lynwood Ponder, Hiram Mobley and Sam Godwin. Arrangements were handled by Forsyth-Bearden Funeral Home.
