Davis passed from this life to her reward. Her body was brought here the following day and laid to rest in the Cairo cemetery. For more than twenty years, she had lived in Cairo, and was always in the forefront of Christian work. She was one of the organizers of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church and for many years its President. Her faithful work in the Sunday school was a labor of love, and for two decades, Sunday afternoon found her with her class, teaching them of Jesus. Hers was a simple, trusting faith, and there are many in our town who remember the sweet persuasiveness of her work at the altar in the old Methodist church and we ask ouselves who is taking her place. Sure it was as she said to me a few months ago, "whether or not I can claim a high religious experience -- I know my heart is fixed on Jesus." Her patience and cheerfulness during her last days, which were months of suffering, only emphasized the life of sacrifice and self abnegation that was passing away. But the dead speak by their lives, by their works and by their words. They speak in the ear of memory and affection, those we have loved pass away from our sight, but they live in our memory and in our hearts, while their voices come back to us with a new power when their lips no longer move. Her untiring devotion to her grand children was spoken of and the influence of her sincere Christian daily walk has and will continue to bear fruit. Servant of God well done, Rest from their loved employ; The battle fought, the victory won; Enter thy Master's joy.
