H. Harrison Murdered Mr. J. H. Harrison, one of Grady County's most prominent and prosperous farmers, was assassinated Tuesday night in his own home, a few miles north of this place and the whole community is shocked by the wicked cowardly crime. The guilty party is not yet apprehended, and so far as the public knows. there was no ill feeling existing between Mr. Harrison and any man. He was in Cairo last Tuesday, and returning to his home that night some time after dark, discovered someone sitting upon a horse in front of his gate. Directing his little son to carry his horse and buggy to the lot, he very naturally turned without apparent suspicion of danger or a difficulty towards the party who had evidently been waiting to see him, for what purpose no one knew, not even Mr. Harrison. The son had not gone far before he heard two reports of a gun, and rushing back to the scene found his father the victim of a deliberate murderous attack. One load of shot had entered his chest and made a deep unsightly hole just below his throat, while another had been scattered over his breast just a little lower. The gun was loaded with buckshot, and the two reports were almost instant in their succession. The crime is covered with mystery, as Mr. Harrison was a peaceable, law abiding citizen, who lived honorable before his neighbors, and against whom no one could with justification have the least grudge. His relations with all men, so far as is known, were friendly, and as no one except himself was near enough to the assassin to detect his identity, it seems that the mystery will be a difficult one to solve. Mr. Harrison never spoke after being shot but died instantly. Our people will greatly deplore his untimely death, and will seek to find out the culprit who murdered him and to see that justice is measured out in the full proportion with the malicious deed deserves.
