Drew Our community was shocked last Friday when it was learned that, as a result of a shooting affray between Mr. William Drew and Mr. Newt Threlkell, about 8 miles from Cairo. There had been bad feelings existing between the men for some time and last Friday the climax was reached when they met in the road near Drew's home. Threkell fired three shots at Drew at short range, each taking effect in the abdomen. Drew's 15 year-old son being near, secured a pistol and fired three shots at his father's assailant, two of which took effect in Threkell's throat, which will probably prove fatal. Mr. Drew lingered until last Sunday when death relieved him of his sufferings. He died shortly before 2 o'clock from the effects of the wounds arrived. His remains were interred in the burying grounds at Bold Springs. Rev. Ellis conducted the funeral services at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, witnessed by a large number of relatives and friends.
