L. Oliver The death angel has invaded our town and taken from us one of the pioneer citizens of the town, Dr. J. L. Oliver whom death claimed last Sunday night at 7 o'clock. Dr. Oliver came to Cairo about 20 years ago when he was comparatively a young man, and when there was but few houses in Cairo, and by dint of energy and close application to business the Dr. accumulated a modest little fortune, and aided in building up his town and community. He was considered one of the foremost physicians of this section when he was engaged in this business, and was also one of the best farmers in south west Georgia, and a leading merchant of the town. He was a firm believer that whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do with thy might, and whatever Dr. Oliver undertook he always put into it that amount of energy and zeal and business integrity which always brings success. Dr. Oliver was jovial, kindhearted and pleasant, and number his friends by the score. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday at 3 o'clock P.M., conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. C. Parker and his friend Rev. W. C. Jones, both of whom made appropriate and touching talks on the life and character of Dr. Oliver. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of people. The business houses being closed during the funeral hours. His body was interred at the Cairo Cemetery. Dr. Oliver was a faithful, kind husband, a loving and indulgent father. He leaves, to mourn his loss, his wife and two sons, Des Oliver, a leading merchant of the town and Dr. W. Earl Oliver, a prominent physician and druggist, besides his immediate family, he leaves a brother in Ala., and one at Morris Station, Ga., and a sister, Mrs. Knowles, of this city. We would commend the sorrowing wife, sons and other relatives and friends for comfort to Him "who doeth all things well," and take comfort in the fact that Dr. Oliver is where sorrow and pain cannot come.
