J. M. Parker, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Cairo, died at his residence, after a very brief illness, last Friday evening, at 7 o'clock. He had been in feeble health for several years, but the immediate cause of his death was LaGrippe. The funeral services, conducted by his pastor, Dr. R. H. Harris, were held at the Baptist church, at 2:30 p.m. and were attended by a congregation that packed the house. Interment, immediately following, took place in the new cemetery. Mr. Parker was a native of Baker county, in this state, and was in his seventy- fifth year, at the time of his death. The principal part of his life was spent in farming and by industry, good judgment and economy, he has amassed quite a handsome property. He had been a Baptist deacon for many years and had represented Thomas county, for a term or two, in the legislature, some thirty odd years ago. His wife, who survives him was Miss Rhoda A Bowen, of a very prominent old Thomas county family, and the union had lasted about fourty years. Some months ago, she sustained a fracture of the hips, from a fall, and she has not sufficiently recovered to be able to walk well. She has the sympathy of the entire community, in her sad bereavement. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
