M. VanLandingham, born March 26, 1834 and reared in Wilkinson county, died at her home in Cairo (Grady County, GA), Oct. 11th. She joined the Methodist Church when about 19 years of age and Nov. 23rd, 1856 was married to W. R. VanLandingham, with whom she removed from Macon county to Thomas county 1874. The husband lived less than two years in the new home where he was seeking to regain his health. There remain his daughter, and two sons and two daughters, the children of this, his second marriage. These with the nine grand children and many friends grieve over their loss. The deceased exemplified the highest type of the consecrated Christian, her virtues and graces shining at home and throughout the community in which she lived. As a parent especially unselfish and tender, as a neighbor given to charity and good deeds, as a church member regular and faithful, as a Christian sweet spirited and kind. She has touched many hearts for good and her influence sheds a sweet and lasting perfume. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walter C. Jones, an old friend and assisted by Dr. R. H. Harris and I. E. McKellar. Many friends gathered to pay to this noble and esteemed woman the last sad respects. The kind words everywhere spoken and the flowers made ready by gentle hands are a fit tribute to the long, full and victorious life of our beloved sister.
