F. Godwin, died at the residence of Mr. James McKown, her step-grandfather, near Cairo, last Friday, Feb. 26th. She was the second daughter of Mr. J. F. Godwin, deceased, a formerly well-known citizen of Grady County -- Mrs. Lucius G. Merritt, of Cairo, the other and now only surviving child. Miss Callie was a lovely young lady, affectionately esteemed by all who knew her, and in her death, her widowed mother has sustained a sad loss; the bereavement is almost equally trying to her devoted grandmother, while her sister, her aunt, Mrs. M. G. McManeus, and other relatives are afflicted with a great sorrow. She was a sincere and devoted Christian, having been united with Long Branch church, at the age of fifteen or sixteen years, and in her modest, quiet way, her life was a beautiful model. She was greviously afflicted, for a number of years, with a spasmodic trouble of frequent recurrence and her attendant sufferings were dreadful; but she bore all in a spirit of heroic Christian fortitude. From the point of view just presented, her death was a blessed release, and in that occurrence, so sad and trying to her family and friends, she really experienced a happy transition from a bondage of inexpressible suffering, on earth to a heaven of infinite peace and bliss, above. The attack which carried her off lasted only a few hours. She appeared to realize, from the first, that the end was at hand and she met it without fear. Then, the excruciating agony over, her sweet spirit doubtless gladly left the tortured body and winged its flight joyfully home.
