Although the notice given was very brief, because of the need of moving the body to his former home in the country, the attendance was very large, chairs being necessary to accommodate the audience. While the church bell was tolling, the corpse was met at the door by Revs. Towson and Harris who preceded it to the front of the chancel, while the scripture used on such occasion was read by Mr. Towson. After an impressive rendering of "Nearer My God To Thee," by the choir, a very touching prayer was offered by Dr. Harris. A lesson from 1 Corinthians xv:20- 58, was then read, after which Mr. Towson delivered a brief sermon from the text: "The days of his youth has Thou shortened." After a short discussion of the providence involved in this death and a brief analysis of the life and character of Carl, the speaker closed with an earnest appeal to the living that they would lay this dispensation of God's providence to heart. The remains were then carried to the Mitchell home, where Carl spent his last night at the old place, and the next day, in the afternoon, in the presence of many relatives and friends of this splendid boy and promising youth, Revs. Mr. Towson and G. W. Jordan, of Metcalf, laid him away in "the old Mitchell cemetery" to sleep till the resurrection of the just. Although the weather was distressingly warm and the distance rather great, several friends went to the burial. Others were prevented by illness.
