G. F. Taylor Called To Reward Rev. G. F. Taylor, a widely known and highly esteemed citizen of this county (Mitchell), died at his home near Hopeful, in the southwestern part of the county, last Saturday night, the 11th inst., about 10:30 o'clock. He had been in feeble health for several years, but about four months ago he was taken with an illness that he was unable to throw off and he continually grew worse until last Saturday, when the Master, whom he had served so faithfully for many years, called him to his final reward. Rev. Taylor was 66 years of age. He was born in Worth County, October 10th, 1844. Just before the war he moved to Mitchell County and has resided here ever since. He served faithfully through the war as a private under Major Canfield. After the war he became a minister of the gospel and for thirty years he taught the Bible as he understood it and lived up to his teachings as near as human frailties allow. Last fall his health forced him to give up his work. One charge, Long Branch Church, in Grady County, he had served 28 years. Rev. T. A. White, of Thomasville, who preached the funeral and with whom Rev. Taylor had worked in many revivals in this section, paid a touching tribute to the character and life of his deceased brother. Rev. Taylor was twice married. His first wife was Miss Sarah Cox, sister of the late J. M. Cox. Of this marriage five children are living: Mr. C. L. Taylor, of this city; Mr. W. H. Taylor, of Pelham; Mrs. H. G. Cannon, of Cairo; Mrs. J. O. Darsey, of Calvary; and Mrs. N. P. Hodges, of Brinson. His second wife was Miss Lizzie Dodson, who preceded him to the grave about a year ago. Of the second union eight children are living: Messrs. J. A. and D. C. Taylor, Miss Nora Taylor and four younger children. The funeral services were conducted by the Masons of Camilla Lodge of which he had long been a member, at the Hopeful cemetery Monday morning at 11 o'clock. The large gathering at the grave was evidence of the love and esteem borne him by those with whom he had come in contact in life. -- The Camilla Enterprise This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
