He was one of Grady county's best citizens. A man as nearly faultless as men ever are. Dying in the prime of life, just when a man should wish most to live, his death is peculiarly sad. He leaves a wife and five sweet children, one a babe one week old at the time of its father's death. Mr. Rhodes was a wealthy farmer, a Christian gentleman, and a noble citizen. Rev. J. P. Swann in preaching his funeral said many flattering things of the beautiful life he had lived. He loved his neighbor, his family, and his God. When the old pass away we feel sad, but praise the Lord for having let him live so long. When the young die we grieve for what he might have been. But when a man, burdened with responsiblity of a bevy of children, and blessed with a devoted companion, is called away, we grieve because He makes vacant a place that cannot be filled. The distress of the family of Mr. Rhodes beggars conception. May the loving Father, who makes no mistake in dealing out his Providence, "temper the wind to the shorn lamb."
