Mr. R. R. Pyles, one of Grady's oldest citizens, was prostrated last Friday night with strangulated hernia and so serious was his condition, that it was thought best by his physician, Dr. Arline to remove him at once to the hospital in Thomasville, which was done, Drs. Arline and Walker leaving immediately for that city going through the country in Mr. Harry Hart's automobile. The trip was made without any mishap and in but only a very few minutes. It was very necessary that an operation should be performed and Mr. Pyles was placed upon the operating table, the operation being performed successfully but owing to his extreme age -- being in his ninety first year -- he was unable to stand the shock and death came to his relief the next day at 12 o'clock. His remains were brought to Cairo on train No. 185 Saturday afternoon, a few minutes past 5 o'clock. Interment took place Sunday afternoon in the Leroy Cooke cemetery, surrounded by a large number of friends and relatives. After many trials and narrow escapes, on the field of battle, where he was several times wounded, he was permitted to die at home in answer to the last call from Him who doeth all things and it is hoped that is well with "Uncle Reuben" as he was called by almost every one who knew him.
