A. Hudson Drowned In Lake Miccosukie News was received here last Saturday shortly before noon of the death of Mr. Herbert A. Hudson, by drowning in Lake Miccosukie, Jefferson County, Florida, between seven and eight o'clock Saturday morning. Mr. Hudson, who had been fishing on the lake for several weeks, it seems, left shore in a row boat alone to go to his fish nets in the lake. Several negro fishermen were not a great distance from him when they saw him fall from the boat and the boat turn over. Two of the darkies immediately rowed to his rescue but they did not see the body come to the surface at all. This left them to suppose that apoplexy or heart failure was the immediate cause of his death or that when he went under, his body became entangled in the grass and that kept him from being able to rise again. The was only about seven feet deep where the boat capsized. The negroes immediately called for help and Mr. J. R. Evans was phoned, he notifying Mrs. H. J. Hart here. Mr. Robert Hudson, his brother, left soon after getting the news and the body was brought here Saturday night and carried to the home of Mrs. T. F. Graves, sister of the deceased. Funeral and burial services were held at the Cairo cemetery at 10:30 Sunday morning, Rev. J. B. Wight officiating. The deceased was the son of Mrs. J. A. Hudson, formerly of Cairo, but now of Moultrie. He was reared in Cairo, and made this his home during the greater portion of his life. He was 44 years of age and is survived by his mother, three brothers, Messrs. John W. of Camilla, Floyd, of San Antonio, Texas, and R. H. Hudson of Cairo; and six sisters, Mrs. Albert Bowen of Moultrie, Mrs. R. A. Beard, of Ruskin, Mrs. G. F. McLendon of Perry, Ga., Mrs. H. J. Hart, Mrs. T. F. Graves, and Mrs. J. E. Connell, all of Cairo. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/grady/obits/h/ob6620hudson.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
