Mrs. Maxwell was born in what was then Decatur County, now Grady, on March 21st, 1843; married Jas. W. Maxwell November 8th, 1866; before her marriage she was Miss Ann Elizabeth Herring. She was in her 77th year. She joined the Methodist church in young life, and indeed gave her heart to God. Her husband preceded her into the great beyond five years ago. In a very quiet sphere she spent her life unknown by the busy world, but her worth was known by Him who she served. The funeral was conducted by her nephew, Rev. J. B. Wight, at old Piedmont cemetery near Calvary, Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. A large concourse of people paid tribute to her memory by their presence. She leaves five sons: Hanson Maxwell of Amsterdam; Dr. Council Maxwell of Calvary; Miles and Howard Maxwell of Calvary; Walter Maxwell of Quincy; one daughter, Mrs. Will Darsey of Whigham; two brothers: P. H. Herring of Cairo, Joseph Herring of Calvary and one sister, Mrs. Simon Brinson of Brinson.
