It is thought by the officers that the negroes were gambling, as the fuss is supposed to have started over a dime. At an early hour Sunday morning, Andrew Wiley and Leroy Jenkins, who also work at the logging camp, brought the body of Martin in a wagon to Gradyville, reporting to Mr. Kelley that the deceased had been accidentally killed. Mr. Kelley in turn notified Sheriff Perkins, who went down and made an investigation arresting English on the charges of killing Martin. Both negroes were placed in jail to await the action of the Grand Jury. Jenkins is not thought to have took any hand in the killing and is held principally as a material witness, while English will have to answer to the charge of murder.
