McManeus passed away Saturday, August 14th, about 8:30 a.m. About two years ago, he was attacked with a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. Mr. McManeus was 75 years of age. He was one of the earliest settlers of Cairo. He became a member of the Methodist church in early life and lived a true Christian life. During his long illness he often spoke to his friends and loved ones about his departure, about which he had no fear. He appeared to be willing and ready to go. Very often he would sing strains from the song: "In the Sweet By and By." He was married twice. Early in life, he was married to Miss Ella Hayes, who passed into realms unknown about eight years after their union. To this union was born three children who survive him. Later he was married to Miss Emmie Richardson, who was his faithful companion to the end. By his first marriage, Mr. McManeus is survived by three children: Mrs. J. F. Helms of virginia; b. W. McManeus of Sebring, Fla.; and H. M. McManeus of Cairo and by his second wife: Mrs. T. W. Wynn of Jacksonville, Fla.; R. H. McManeus of Thomasville; and Van McManeus of Cairo. The deceased is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Calvin Mock of Thomasville and one brother, Mr. M. G. McManeus of Cairo. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. B. Wight, assisted by Rev. P. C. Barkley in the Cairo Methodist church Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, interment following in the local cemetery.
