Cox, Sr. June 21, 1927 - August 25, 1996 Funeral services for Mr. James Madison Cox, Sr., 69, of Whigham were held Tuesday, August 27 at Whigham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Whatley and the Rev. Joey Cannon officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Cox died at his residence August 25 after a lengthy illness. He was a native and lifetime resident of Grady County. He graduated from Whigham High School and Florida State University. A U. S. Navy veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 122 and Whigham Masonic Lodge # 356. He was a retired postmaster of the Whigham post office, and a past president of the Whigham Community Club. He received the Community Service Award in 1994. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was active in promoting the annual Whigham Rattlesnake Roundup. He was a member of the Whigham United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jane Bell Cox; three sons, James M. Cox, Jr. of Climax, Jet Cox and Joey Cox, both of Whigham; a sister, Eleanor Bowers of Marianna, Fla., a brother, Charles Cox; and eight grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Whigham United Methodist Church Building Fund, or other charitable organization.
