The Cairo Messenger, June 9, 1978
Mrs. Lottie Bell Merritt, wife of Mr. Joel A. Merritt, died in Archbold 
Memorial Hospital in Thomasville on Tuesday, June 6, 1978 after being ill for a 
short time.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 1978 at the First 
Presbyterian Church in Cairo with Rev. Robert Lewis pastor of First 
Presbyterian Church and Rev. Leo Y. Lewis officiating.  Interment was in the 
Rawls Cemetery.

Mrs. Merritt was born in Grady County on November 9, 1904 to the late E. E. and 
Nancy Elizabeth Hudson Chason and on December 19, 1920, she was married to Joel 
A. Merritt.  She has been a lifetime member of this community, worked as a 
homemaker and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Merritt; three children, Mrs. Virginia 
Conner of Riverdale, Georgia, Mrs. Mildred Sellars of Dublin, Georgia and Joel 
L. Merritt of Cairo; nine grandchildren; Thomas, Dorothy and Debra Merritt of 
Riverdale; Glenda Wooten of Albany; Helen Fuqua, David Sellars, both of Dublin; 
Lynn Dollar, Mary Butler and Sue Merritt, all of Cairo; five great 
grandchildren; three brothers, Schley Chason of Unionville, Tennessee, Horace 
Chason of Whigham, Georgia and Delma Chason of Bay Town, Texas; two sisters, 
Mrs. Naomi Harrell of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mrs. Alma Gunter of 
Crawfordville, Florida.

Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

NOTE: CORRECTION
This is my mother's sister and is listed as Mrs. Naomi Harrell.  My
mother was Mrs. Naomi Hamel.
