The Cairo Messenger, June 9, 1978
Mr. George W. Ready, Sr., age 85, died on June 4, 1978 at the Whigham Nursing 
Center in Whigham after several weeks of illness.

Final rites were held on Monday, June 5, 1978 at 4 p.m. at Pine Level Baptist 
Florida; eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.Church in Cairo with 
Rev. Freeman Allen and Rev. L. W. Hampton officiating, interment in the Pine 
Level Cemetery.  Active pallbearers were Elwood Harrison, Turner Harrison, 
Hershel Womble, Marvin Womble, Henry Horton, Jr., and Ronnie Widener.  Honorary 
pallbearers were Deacons of Pine Level Baptist Church and L. Z. Widener.

Mr. Ready was born in Barnwell, South Carolina on May 24, 1892 to the late 
George and Ida Usury Ready and in 1925 he was married to Italy Cain who 
preceded him in death in July of 1942.  Mr. Ready later married Eva Barfield in 
1944.  He has lived 51 years in Grady County, was a retired farmer, and a 
member of Pine Level Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eva Barfield; three sons, George W. Ready, Jr. 
of Roswell, Georgia; Charles A. Ready of Fountain Inn, South Carolina and 
Robert E. Ready of Cairo; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Young of Jacksonville, 

Clark Funeral Home of Cairo was in charge of arrangements.
