"Friendly Ben" Dekle, 56, of West Columbia, S. C., died Friday, February 10, 1978, in a West Columbia hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident Thursday, Feb. 9, 1978. Mr. Dekle was born in Pelham, Ga., a son of the late Forest and Lois Taylor Dekle, and had made his home in West Columbia since 1962. He was a former announcer for radio station WCAY in West Columbia, and was a member of the Alpine Baptist Church of Columbia, S. C. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ernestine S. Dekle of West Columbia; his step- mother, Mrs. Riley Griner, of Cairo, Ga.; 4 sons, Forest, Marvin, Allison, and James Dekle, all of West Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Woodard of West Columbia; a sister, Mrs. Jewel Gilliard of Cairo, Ga.; 2 half-sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Harrison of Cairo, Ga. and Mrs. Ionne Hale of Thomasville, Ga.; a half-brother, Mack Dekle of Cairo, Ga.; and 4 grandchildren. Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 1978, in the chapel of the Thompson Funeral Home in West Columbia, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Fleming. Burial was in Celestial Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. S. C. was in charge.
