Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 1978 at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church, southeast of Cairo with Elder O. V. Marshall and Rev. Ben Edwards officiating, interment in the Providence Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Marvin Sasser, Earl Sasser, Frankie Walden, Freddie Walden, Billy Jordan, Ronnie Atchison. Honorary pallbearers were men of the historic Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Walden was born in Grady County on January 14, 1905 to the late Newton Jones Walden and Laura Belle Key Walden and on December 21, 1935 he was married to Bernice Johnson, who survives. He spent his entire life in Grady County and was a retired farmer and a member of the Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Bernice Walden, of Whigham; five sons, J. M. Walden, Johnston, S. C., Charles Walden, Whigham, Ray Walden, Cordele, Donald Walden, U. S. Navy, Ellsworth, Maine and Kenneth Walden, Whigham; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Hancock and Mrs. June Wells, both of Cairo; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Harrison, Whigham and Mrs. Veltry Jordan, Port St. Joe, Florida; twelve grandchildren.
