W. Maxwell, known to scores of Grady County friends as "Uncle Dan" who passed away at the home of his son in Marietta, Ga. on Wednesday evening, April 15th, was buried at the Gainey cemetery, south of Cairo, on last Monday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. J. E. Sampley, pastor of the Cairo Methodist Church, in charge. He was 69 years of age. He was the son of the late John R. (Red John) and Margaret Jane Maxwell, and was reared in the North Carolina settlement of this county. He resided here until a few months ago, when he went to live with a son in Marietta. He was ill only a short time. His body was brought here, where it rested at the home of another son, awaiting the arrival of a daughter from a distance. He was admired by many for his jolly disposition and his geniality. He was widely known as a fiddler and one of his last requests was for a radio program of fiddling music. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Mr. Maxwell leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. J. T. Gainey, Mrs. R. H. Gainey and N. W. Maxwell, all of Grady County; and five children: L. F. Maxwell of Cairo, H. L. and Clifford Maxwell, of Marietta, Mrs. J. W. Mobley of Whigham and Mrs. F. M. Decker, of Sayre, Pennsylvania. Eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
