Impressive final rites were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Pine Level Baptist Church north of Cairo, with Rev. Freeman Allen officiating, with interment by Clark Funeral Home, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo. Active pallbearers were Willie Arnett, Doyle Griner, Grady Maxwell, Wilburn Maxwell, Manuel Maxwell, Lamar Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Bell, Wynburn Bell, Jeff Davis, George Shiver, Kiah Owens, Lesley Barrett, Jessie Hobby, Wesley Collins, Willard Powe, Howard Harrison, Walter Godwin, Fred Norton, Eldron Whigham, R. F. Willis, Ronald Waldron, R. L. Ferrell, Hurshel Harrison, Melton McKown, E. E. Powe, George Bond, Bill Griner, Ed Harrell, Eugene Harrison, Robert Ready, Bernard Tuggle and Lynn Womble. Mr. Maxwell was born in Grady County on Sept. 15, 1901 to the late William Franklin (Billy) and Lula Bell Whigham Maxwell and on April 30, 1921 he was married to the former Miss Ethel Mae Griner, who survives. He had spent his entire lifetime in this area engaged in business, and was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church. Mr. Maxwell's survivors include a devoted wife, Ethel Mae Maxwell, Cairo; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Knickle, Cocoa, Fla.; five sons, Vaughn Maxwell, Atlanta, James Maxwell, Titusville, Fla., Jonas Jefferson Maxwell, Jr., Gainesville, Fla., Billy Maxwell, Live Oak, Fla.,and Albert Maxwell of Hudson, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and three great granddaughters; two brothers, Grady Maxwell, Cairo and David N. (Bud) Maxwell, Cairo; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Sutton, Cairo, Mrs. Sarah Arnett, St. Augustine, Fla., and Mrs. Gussie Scarborough of Groover City, Calif.
