Funeral services were held on July 10, 1979 at the Pine Hill Baptist Church in Cairo with Rev. Bill Parker officiating, interment in the Tired Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Wyeth Maxwell, Arthur Maxwell, Roy Harrison, Walter Harrison, Bobby Edwards and James Earl Edwards. Mrs. Maxwell was born in South Carolina on April 14, 1906 to the late Robert E. and Ophelia Brown Woodward and was married to William F. Maxwell who preceded her in death in October of 1972. She was a retired elementary school teacher and a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Wilda M. Dowling of Waycross; three grandchildren, Angela Nell, Tammy, and Scott Dowling all of Waycross; two brothers, Robert Woodward of Faceville, Georgia and Wesley Woodward of Quincy, Florida; two sisters, Lessie Thigpen of Bainbridge and Evie Edwards of Sneads, Florida.
