J. Burks of Whigham died May 10 in Grady General Hospital in Cairo after a lengthy illness. He was 64. Mr. Burks was born in Rockford, Ala. February 8, 1916. He was the son of the late Isiah J. Burks, Sr. and Jessie Bulger Burks. Mr. Burks was married to Trudy Fallin January 13, 1939, who survives him. Mr. Burks, a lifetime resident of Whigham, was a farmer. He was also a member of Union Springs Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Burks are his wife, Trudy F. Burks of Whigham; a sister, Decie Dollar of Tallahassee, Fla.; and one brother, Bob Burks, Verbena, Ala. Services for Mr. Burks were conducted May 12 at 3 p.m. in the Whigham Baptist Church by Rev. Jerry Robertson, Rev. W. E. Pledger and Rev. Rick Butler. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ronnie Williams, Winford Powe, Hubert Harrell, Melvin Knight, Jr., Donnie Waldrop and Bobby Miller. Acting as honorary pallbearers were Bennie Powe, E. B. Stone, Julius Newberry, O. J. Hall, Judson Phillips, Pope Mobley, Cecil Crew, Bennie Williams, James Cox, Bill Pritchett, Lane Waldrop, Luther Gray, Turner Harrell, D. P. Trulock, G. B. Trulock, Johnny Walden, Francis Hester, Howard Edwards and Jett Cox. Arrangements were handled by Clark Funeral Home of Cairo.
