L. Poulk Is Claimed By Death Last Wednesday afternoon, October 13th, at 3:30 o'clock, God saw fit to call up higher, Mrs. Annie Dunbar Poulk, widow of the late lamented John L. Poulk, who passed to the great beyond December 14th, 1918. She had been in ill health for several months but had been confined to her bed for 18 days previous to her death. Cancer was the disease from which she suffered and caused her death. Mrs. Poulk was born in Thomas County, June 26th, 1865, being 65 years of age. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Henry Dunbar. In 1874, the family moved to Cairo, residing here for two years and returning to Thomas county. Then in 1880 Cairo was made their permanent home. On May 11, 1887, she was married to Mr. John L. Poulk and they lived happily together until his death. Mrs. Poulk, early in life, accepted Jesus as her Master, and joined the Missionary Baptist Church. She was a consistent member of this denomination and was a regular attendant at all services. Miss Annie, as she was known to every one was a very creditable woman, and her many deeds of kindness and charity will long be remembered. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church yesterday afternoon about three o'clock, by Rev. D. H. Parker, her former pastor, assisted by Rev. R. C. Barkley, conducting the last sad rites. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the local cemetery. One devoted son, Carl, one faithful brother, T. J. Dunbar, and her aged mother, Mrs. Annie E. Dunbar, all of Cairo are left to mourn the going away of their loved one. Her friendly greeting we shall miss and her place in the home will always be vacant. We pray the rich blessings of God, upon the bereaved ones in this dark hour.
