Wise, mwise@prodigy.net War Of 1812 Pension Records of James Bridges State of Georgia County of Greene On this 17thof December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty personally appeared before me, a justice of the Peace, within and for said county and State aforesaid, James Bridges aged 54 years, a resident of the county of Greene in the State of Georgia who being duly sworn according to law, declares, that he is the identical James Bridges who was a Private in the Company commanded by Captain Adam Heath in the 1st Regiment of Georgia Malitia commanded by Col. Grover Harris or ?in the war with the Creek Indians Declared against Great Britain, 18th day of June 1812, that he substituted for ?some? months at Warrenton on or about the 15th day of July A.D. 1813 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Fort Milohee on the 1st day of February A.D. 1814 after discharge given but as will appear? by the muster rolls of said company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States," passed September 28th, 1850; and he hereby appoints Dr. D. Cooper his agent to obtain his bounty land warrant. Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written. Vardaman at Eatonton on or about the 15th day of September A.D. 1814 for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Savanah on the 15th day of March A.D. 1815, no discharge given but as will appear on the muster rolls of said company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States," passed September 28th, 1850; and he hereby appoints Dr. D. James (hisXmark) Bridges Declaration for a Pension under act of February 14, 1871, War of 1812 State of Mississippi County of Attala On this 17th day of August A.D.,one thousand eight hundred and seventy -two, personally appeared before me William V. Davis Clerk, of the Chancery Court, a court of record within and for the county and State aforesaid, James Bridges ,aged seventy-four years, a resident of Attala, county, State of Mississippi who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is married, that his wife's name was Susan Copeland, to whom he was married at Greene County, Georgia, on the __day of __, 1831; that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military service of the United States in the war of 1812; that he is the identical James Bridges who drafted in Captain Rosser Company, Jet Thomas' regiment, John Floyd's brigade, __ division, at Putnam County,Georgia on the __ day of 1815 or 1814 and was honorably discharged at __ , on the __ day of __ that I was a private in said company and served full six months. at the end of said time I volunteered at Savanah Georgia in a sea fuscible company under Captain__ Newell for three? months and served the full time of my enlistment did not at any time during the late rebellion excercise the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority, in hostility to the United states; and that he will support the Constitution of the United States; that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the penison roll of the United states, under the provision of the act approved February 14, 1871, and he hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, ?W. Thompson State of Mississippi Attala County On this 12th day of July 1871, personally appeared before me W.V. Davis Clerk of the Chancery Court of Said County of Attala, the same being a court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid James Bridges aged Seventy-eight years a resident of the County of Attala and State of Mississippi who being duly Sworn according to law declares he is the identical James Bridges who served the full period of sixty days in the military service of the United States in the war of 1812 and who was the identical James Bridges who enlisted in Captain David Ross's company in the regiment commanded by Col. Jett Thomas at Putnam County in the state of Georgia in the fall or summer of 1814 and that he served in General Floyd's brigade and was honorably discharged at Savanna Georgia in the latter part of the winter or first of the spring of 1815. That he was stationed near Savanna Georgia soon after he entered teh Service and recruited there for 6 months and untill he was discharged, that he was a single man at the time of his enlisting and discharge and so remained for several years thereafter that during the late civil war with the United States he held no office either Civil or Military nor exercised the functions of any office. That he will support the constitution of the United States. that he is not in reciept of any pension under any previous act that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the rpovisions of the act approved February 14th 1871 and hereby constitutes and appoints with full powers of substitution and revocation. Thompson of said County the subscribing and attesting witnesses to the application of James ridges for pension ,and have been acquainted with them for many years, and know them to be truthful and reliable gentlemen whose statements in the pensions are entitled to full faith and credit. Thomas' Regiment of Mil. and to have been discharged (or died) at __ on the 15th day of March 1815. If the above name is not found on the rolls of said Company, will you so state and report as to enrollment, in the case of any man bearing a similar name, whom you have good reason for believing to be the soldier inquired for. Treadway an acting Justice of the Peace i nad for the County of Attala in the State of Mississippi Susan Bridges who being duly Sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of James Bridges deceased who was the identical James Bridges who served under the name of James Bridges as a private in the company commanded by Captain David rosser in the regiment of not remembered commanded by in the war of 1812; that her said husband enlisted at not remembered on or about the __ day of __ A.D. 18__ for the term of not remembered and continued in actual service in said war for the term of not remembered and whoe term of services terminated by reason of an honorable discharge at not remembered on or about the __ day of __ A.D. 18__ She further States that she was married to the said James Bridges in the County of Green and in the State of Georgia on the 1st day of October A.D. 1831 by one Lewis Parker who was a aJustice of the Peace. That her name before her marriage was Susan Copeland, and that she has not remarried since his death, and she further states htat her husband James Bridges deceased had never been married before his marriage with this affiant. that her said husband James Bridges died at Attala County in the State of Mississippi on the 16th day of May A.D. 1878 and she further declares that herself and her said husband continued to live in the County of Green in the State of Georgia in which they were married up to the time of their removal to the said County of Attala in the State of Mississippi, where the said soldier James Bridges continued to live up to the time of his death as aforesaid. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under the provisions of Section 4731 to 4740 Revised Statutes, and the act of March 9th 1878. And hereby Constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation J.W. Scarbororugh of Lisciusko Mississippi her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim and she further declares that she has not made any other application for a pension, that she is an aged and infirm person, and lives at to great a distance from Kosciusko to visit town and make this proof before an officer of a court of record and hterefore avails herself of the privilege as were as necessity of making this proof before E. Treadway a justice of the peace of said county of Attala that her residence is Attala County state of Mississippi and that her post office address is Wells P.O. Sweatt aged 44 years the persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to Credit and who being by me duly sworn say that they have known the said Susan Bridges for 18 years and for 20 years respectively. That they were presen and saw her sign her name by her mark to the foregoing declaration, that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her that she is the identical person she represents herself to be and they further say they are able to identify her as the person who was the wife of the identical James Bridges who rendered the service alleged in the above application in the Company of Captain David Rosser in the war of 1812 by the following facts and circumstances, by that the said James Bridges and Nancy Bridges were living together as husband and wife in about 1860 the time of their first acquaintance with them and continued so to live and were so regarded by the community in which they lived up to the time of his death on the 16th day of May A.D. 1878 that the raised a family of children as such. That their relations as husband and wife was continuous and uninterrupted up to his death as aforesaid. And that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim and that she live to far from town to go there and make proof. (signed)Susan (herXmark) Bridges (signed)N.C. Almon N. N.
