                    after being ill for a year
Born:               February 22, 1922, age 72, native of Madison

Occupation:         The State Department of Naural Resources and
                    Wellington Industries as personel manager; operated
                    Wellington OUtlet Store
                    Member of the Madison City Council for 30 years, 
                    Vice Mayor for a time.
Education:          Madison High School, McCalle School in Chattanooga
                    University of Georgia
Military Service:   US Marines WWII, Pacific Theater, called to duty
                    from active reserves in Korea
Organizations:      Chi Phi Fraternity; Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 
                    American Legion, Madison-Morgan Cultural Center;
                    Madison Historic Preservation Commission.
Religion:           Member Madison Presbyterian Church
Other activities:   Member of the Children of the American Revolution
                    enjoying history and teaching young people the love of 
                    searching for family past (genealogy); spoke to groups on 
                    cemeteries and cemetery research.
Preceded by:        Parents Butler Markham Atkinson, Sr. & Mae Morgan Atkinson
                    (who owned Atkinson's Pharmacy, downtown Madison)
