Callaway Re-Buried The body of Lt. Francis Fielding Callaway arrived in Greensboro on Monday, Dec. 20th and was buried in the City Cemetery. Lt. Callaway, affectionately known as "Tale" gave his life for his country on Sept. 13, 1944 in Metz, France. He was buried in Andilly, France. Lt. Callaway, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Callaway was born in Greensboro. He graduated from Greensboro High School and attended Presbyterian College and while a student there enlisted in the service of his country in June 1943. He received training at Fort Benning, Ga., and Camp Jackson, S.C. He received his commission as second lieutenant in December and in May, 1944, was ordered overseas as a Replacement Officer in the 10th infantry, Co. E, 5th Regiment. He was awarded the Purple Heart. No services were held at the graveside Monday as a memorial service had been held at the Greensboro Baptist Church on October 29, 1944. However, beautiful flowers were place on the grave by relative and friends in loving memory of "Tale." Additional Comments: Son of John Sanders Callaway, Jr. and Frances Wilson.
