SARA CALLAWAY IS BURIED AT PENFIELD Passed Away In Greensboro At Home Of Daughter, After Long Illness Mrs. Sara Eliza Callaway, born November 24, 1846, a pioneer citizen of Greene County and widow of the late Rev. John Sanders Callaway, of Penfield, Passed away Sunday morning after a long illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. R. Boswell, in this city. Mrs. Callaway was a life long resident of this county. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ben Wooten, and was married to Rev. John Sanders Callaway, a distinguished Baptist divine, on January 18, 1865. As a girl, Mrs. Callaway was a belle and beauty and the passing of the years had not dimmed either her beauty or charm. She was a woman of beautiful nature, so gentle and good. Her going seemed merely a transition from earth to Heaven, for she was so full of the spirit while on earth. Mrs. Callaway was loved by all who knew her. Her sympathy was extended to all who ever needed kindness and help and throughout her entire life she exemplified everything that was beautiful and ideal as wife, mother and friend. The deceased was a devout member of the Baptist church. The funeral took place Monday morning from the Baptist church. Rev. L. B. Johnson, of Greensboro and Rev. R. L. Robinson of Union Point officiating. The service was beautiful and impressive. Interment in Penfield. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Mrs. Callaway is survived by four sons, Mr. R. M. Callaway, of Atlanta; Mr. W. R. Callaway, of New York, Mr. Benjamin B. Callaway, of Cedartown; Mayor John S. Callaway, of Greensboro; and four daughters, Mrs. J. P. Waldrop, Atlanta; Mrs. Ben Drake, Union Point; Mrs. T. E. Brown, Woodbury; Mrs. E. Reid Boswell, Greensboro. Additional Comments: Daughter of John Benjamin Wooten and Elizabeth Wooten.
