R.W. COPELAN Graveside services were held in Greensboro Monday afternoon for R.W. Copelan, 91, who died at the Morgan County residence of his son, W.A. Copelan. Mr. Copelan was deputy sheriff of Greene County for 10 years and was one of the county commissioners for a number of years. "Uncle Roe" as he was familiarly called by his friends in the county was born and raised in Greene County. As deputy sheriff under Mr. E.C. Hixon, he had charge of the jail. Judge James B. Park in a statement Wednesday paid Mr. Copelan the following tribute: "I have known him from his boyhood until the time of his death. He was a man that was honored and respected by all who knew him. He was a fine citizen, a good public officer and a man whom I always heard everybody speak only in the highest terms." Survivors are three sons, L.T. Copelan, C.D. Copelan and W.A. Copelan. Dr. J. McD. Radford officiated. Additional Comments: Rowan Copelan and his wife, Permelia Victoria Winslett-Copelan, were buried in the Greensboro City Cemetery family plot.
