IN MEMORIAM

  Mrs. Mary E. Copelan, born in Greene county, Ga, 27th September 1817.  Died 
October 25th, 1897, aged 80 years and 1 month.
  She married Jasper N. Copelan, by whom she had 14 children, of whom only six 
survive her -- three boys and three girls, and a host of grand and great-
grandchildren.
  She was a consistant member of the Greensboro Methodist Episcopal Church.
  The writer has been called on to pay a last tribute to another of his old 
acquaintances.  Yet it is gratifying to him, that he can tell of their 
triumphant exit from this "vale of tears."  Another "Mother of Israel" has 
passed through "The valley and the shadow."  She has joined in the anthems over 
Jordan, where her loved ones were awaiting her coming.
  "Unveil thy bosom, faithful tomb,
   Take this new treasure to thy trust,
   And give these sacred relics room,
   To slumber in the silent dust."
 
  Her religion was as simple as a child, and as profound as the source from 
which it sprang.  To fear God, visit the sick and afflicted and to keep herself 
unspotted from the world, was the rule of her faith and practice.  She proved 
that she loved God by loving her fellow creatures.
  A Christian woman, would that the world had more like her.  But she rests in 
the shadow of her appointed place, and He who givith His beloved sleep, knows 
where He lays them down; and in the fullness of thy appointed time, the 
Master's voice will rouse them from thy slumbers, and bid thee, "Faithful 
servant, enter into the Joys of thy Lord."

married in 1834 in Greene County, GA.
