MRS. LULA A. GEER DIES AT PENFIELD

   The passing away of Mrs. Lula A. Geer Monday morning at 10 o'clock at her 
home in Penfield has brought deep. sorrow to her many friends and loved ones.  
Having been in declining health for the past several months when stricken a 
few weeks ago, she was unable to rally her falling strength.
   Mrs. Geer was born and reared at Penfield.  Seventy eight years had crowned 
her life and the winter snows had touched her brow.  She had the wonderful 
privilege of growing to womanhood surrounded by the atmosphere of culture and 
refinement in the little village so rich in history that is dear to the hearts 
of every Georgia Baptist.
   Mrs. Geer had the privilege of studying for several years under the late 
Prof. V. T. Sandford, her father and uncle having been students of Mercer 
university, gave her a wonderful reminiscence of the past.  She was the 
daughter of the late William A. and Mrs Matilda [sic] Colclough and the wife 
of the late James F. Geer.
   Early in life she was left a widow with three children to rear and 
educate.  To them she gave her best effort, walking lifes way alone through 
all the long years.  Supported by the guiding hand and the ever lasting arms 
of God.  She was thus enabled to give to the world a noble daughter and two 
sons who are among our best citizens.
   Mrs. Geer was a woman of quiet dignity of manner, a Christian who tried to 
follow in the Master's footsteps; one who was held dear in the hearts of the 
people of her own community as well as throughout the county and the state.  
She leaves  an only daughter, Miss Mary Geer, of Birmingham, Ala., and two 
sons, Mr. John E. Geer, of Greensboro and Mr. Fred Geer, of Union Point; one 
sister, Miss Jimmie Colclough and three brothers, Mr. J. T. Colclough, Mr. W. 
A, Colclough and Dr. Pete Colclough, all of Penfield and several grandchildren 
and other close relatives to each of these our hearts go out in tenderest love 
land sympathy and we would commend them to Him who is able to keep. them unto 
the end of the way.
   The funeral services were conducted from Mercer Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 
4 o'clock by Rev. Charles H. Koop, of Greensboro.  The music was in charge of 
the choir from Greensboro Baptist Church.  Interment in the Penfield 
Cemetery.  The pall bearers were Mr. Hal Bynum, Mr. C. E. Dreyer, Mr. Ben 
Colclough, Mr. James Colclough, Mr. Luther McCommons and Mr. Walton.  The 
beautiful floral offerings bore mute testimony as to the love and appreciation 
for this good woman.

It was "Mother's Day" on Sunday
And this dear Mother lingered over
with her loved ones,
And when a new day had dawned
She slipped quietly away to that
heavenly city.
Whose streets are paved with gold.
To be re-united with loved ones
forever more.
