J. Hershel Rhodes
Dies in Union Point

   John Hershel Rhodes, 71, died on Sunday at his home in Union Point after a 
brief illness.

   Mr. Rhodes was born in Crawfordville on August 26, 1877, the son of William 
C. Rhodes and Judy Chapman Rhodes.

   Mr. Rhodes had been a prominent merchant in Union Point for 45 years.

   He was a member of the Union Point Baptist Church.

   Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Eliza Ivey Rhodes, of Union Point; daughter, 
Mrs. John A. Reese, of Augusta; son, Clarence C. Rhodes, of Charlotte, N. C.; 
sister, Mrs. Mamie Chapman, of Crawfordville; brother(s), Holcomb Rhodes, of 
Crawfordville; Emmett Rhodes, Orlando, Fla.

   Funeral services occurred Monday at 5 o'clock. Rev. E. H. Campbell, Dr. L. 
T. Newland, Rev. R. W. Green officiating.

   Interment in Union Point cemetery.

   The pall bearers were Ellis Sorrow, W. W. Darden, S. F. Bryan, W. E. 
Hackney, R. O. Harris and B. P. Lunceford.

   M. H. Callaway and Co., funeral directors.
