J. F. TAYLOR GIVES LIFE Official Notice States Taylor Died Prisoner of War November 30, 1942 Lt. John F. Taylor has been reported officially as having died on November 30, 1942 while a prisoner of war of the Japanese government. Mrs. L. Sanford Taylor, mother of Lt. Taylor has received the following telegram: It is with distress that I must inform you that since my telegram of 5 September inviting you to submit a message for attempted transmission to your son in the event he was returned to military control, a delayed report has just been received which states that your son First Lt. John F. Taylor died on 30 November 1942 while a prisoner of War of the Japanese government. The Secretary of War asks that I express his deepest sympathy to you in your tragic loss. Permit me to add my own personal expression of condolence. Letter follows immediately. EDWARD F. WITSELL, Acting The Adjutant General. John Fred Taylor was born in Greensboro January 18, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Taylor. He attended the local schools and graduated from the Greensboro High School. He attended the University of Georgia where he received his degree and commission. Lt. Taylor was stationed at Fort William McKinley, about 14 miles from Manilla when the Japanese made their attack on the Phillipines. Lt. Taylor is survived by his mother, Mrs. L. S. Taylor, of Greensboro; brother, Lt. Commander L. S. Taylor, of Greensboro; sisters, Mrs. Clifford Glover, of Newnan; Mrs. John Clevenger, of Perth Amboy, N.J. and Miss Betty Taylor, of Greensboro.
