M'Whorter Dies at Woodville Athens, Ga., July 27.--(Special.)--Mrs. R.L. McWhorter, nee, Miss Nancy Pope Thurmond, mother of Judge Hamilton McWhorter, of this place, died early today at the home of her son, J.R. McWhorter, at Woodville, in Wilkes county. She was born April 3, 1832, married to the late Major R.L. McWhorter in 1848. For more than fifty years she was a member of the Bairdstown Baptist church. For many years she lived in Athens with her son, Judge McWhorter. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. W.H. Roberts from the home tomorrow at 11 o'clock, and the pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living graduate of the famous old Salem academy at Winston-Salem, N.C. She was in school there from 1844 to 1847, and since the college then did not grant diplomas, she was awarded her diploma by special act of the trustees at the June commencement in 1911, 64 years after she left college. Many will attend the funeral from Athens tomorrow.
