This file was contributed by: Carolyn Golowka ==================================================================== May 2001 Will of David Peebles Greene County, Georgia Will Book 2, pages 49, 50 In the name of God, Amen - I being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same and calling to mind the transitory thing of this live - I do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament viz.: First I five and bequeath to my well beloved wife Elizabeth Peebles all my real and personal estate during her natural life which includes the plantation whereon I now live, also a Negro woman named Luce, and one Do (ditto or Negro woman) named Bet, one Do named Jane and Linder and Ester with all my stock of every kind and house furniture which she is to keep unmolested during life, after which it is my will and pleasure that the above nam'd property with all its increase shall desend to my two sons John Peeples and Dudley Peeples to whole to be equally divided by my executors between them and whereas a certain Negro girl named Kate is now in my possession as security for a certain debt I am bound for to a Miss Sarah Michel which debt Henry Peeples is to pat and provided he should not pay this same by the time said Sarah Michel becomes of age and --- --- (torn off) shall be paid out of my Estate in that case the said Negro girl is to become part of my estate and to be appropriated and divided between my two sons John Peeples and Dudley Peeples as before mentioned. State of Georgia Greene County Appeared Davis and Arch'd Gesham, two of the subscribing witnesses to the within will and being sworn on the body Evangelist of Almighty God deposes that they saw David Peoples dec'd sign seal publish and declare this instrument of writing to be his last will and testament and to the best of their knowledge and belief was of sound perfect and disposing mind and memory at the time of this signing to the same; and further that they saw in their and his presence Henry Brewer sign the same as a concurring evidence done in the presence of the widow and (torn off) acknowledged the probate of the same.
