I James Garrett, being through the abundant of God's goodness and mercy, though weak in body, yet of sound, but perfect understanding & memory, do constitute this my last Will & testament and desire to be received by all as such. I most humbly bequeath unto God my soul, beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it. I give my body to the earth from it was taken in full assurance of its resurrection from thence at the last day. As for my burial I desire it should decent without pomp or state at the discretion of my executors after named. I first lend unto my dear beloved Mourning Garrett the plantation whereon I now live, two negro women named Hannah and Beck, during her widowhood; also I give to my daughter Hannah Woodham, a negro woman named Mon, to her & her heirs forever, but not to be taken away from my estate until my debts are all paid. I also give to my daughter Fanny Butler, on negro girl named Ammica (?). I also give to my daughter Elizabeth Barkdale one negro girl named Charlotte. I also give unto my daughter Ann Ford, one negro boy named Elijah that lives now with her. I also give unto my daughter Susanna Butler one negro girl named Abigail. I also give unto my daughter Mary Garrett, one negro girl named Phebe. I also give unto my son Henry Garrett one county of land lying above Greensborough, and one negro boy named James. I also give unto my son William Garrett, two hundred acres of land and one negro boy named Squire. I also give unto my daughter Charity Garrett, one negro boy named Moses, and to be made equal in value to any of the others out of the work of the negroes before taken away or divided. I also give unto my son Edmond Garrett, two hundred acres of land, and one negro boy named David. I also give unto my son James Kelly Garrett, two hundred acres of land and one negro boy named Robbin. And the remainder of all other of my estate or goods after my wife decease, to be equally divided among all the children. And do hereby constitute my beloved wife and Edmund Butler, Sen. And Jonadab Reid & Joseph Barksdale my executors, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety two.
