Will of John Slaughter 24 Sep 1796 Greene County, GA Greene Co., GA, Will Book B, pp. 7-9 [Note - This will book was apparently transcribed at a later date as the handwriting doesn't appear to be 18th Century handwriting. The spelling, as it appears in the will book, has been retained.] In the name God Amen. I, John Slaughter of the State of Georgia & County of Green being sick & weak in body but of perfect sense of mind & memory Thanks be to Almighty God for the same & calling to mind the uncertainty of this life causes me to make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following -- Item I lend unto my beloved wife during her widow-hood my Plantation & tract of land and my stock & houshold furniture and after her decease I give my stock & household furniture to be equally divided between my sons William Slaughter, Henry Slaughter & Beverley Slaughter. I also lend my wife one waggon during her life & then to be equally divided between my three sons before mentioned to them their heirs & assigns forever & if either of them my sd. sons die before they arive to lawful age - then it is my will that the survivor or survivors of them to have sd. stock furniture & waggon. I also lend unto my beloved wife during her widowhood one negroe man named Simon & one negroe woman named Amy one negroe woman named Betty & one negroe woman named Jude & one negroe boy named Daniel & one negroe boy named Charles & one negroe girl named Ann & after my wifes decease I desire they should be equally divided between my sons & daughters here-after mentioned to wit - George Slaughter, John Slaughter, Martin Slaughter, William Slaughter, Henry Slaughter and Beverly Slaughter & Mary Onsley, Sarah Allen & Frances Kimbrough to them, their Heirs & assigns forever But if either of my sd. Daughters die without an heir of their body my will & desire is that their part of said negroes should belong to the surviving Brothers & Sisters. Item I give my Plantation & Tract of Land I now live on to be equally divided between my four sons to wit - John Slaughter, William Slaughter, Henry Slaughter & Beverly Slaughter provided that either of them my four sons should die before they arive to lawful age then it is my desire that their part of sd. land should be divided between the survivor or survivors of them their heirs & assigns forever -- It is farther my will & desire that my son John Slaug-ters proportion or square of land should be taken of toward Petillers line & Lewises line. Item I give unto my son Martin Slaughter one negroe boy named Titus to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give unto my son William Slaughter one negroe man named Peterleg & one feather bed & furniture & one horse & one rifle gun to him, his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give unto my son Henry Slaughter one negroe man named Scotland & one horse & saddle & one feather bed & furniture & one musket gun to him, his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give unto my son Beverley Slaughter one negro fellow named Sam & one horse & saddle & one feather bed & furniture & one shot gun to him & his heirs & assigns forever. Item I lend unto my daughter Sarah Allen one negroe boy named Elisha during her life & if she has an heir of her body at her decease, surviving it shall be to it or them & their heirs forever & if she has no surviving heir at her decease my will is that the sd. negroe boy be equally divided between my children before mentioned. Item I lend unto my daughter Mary Ousley one negroe girl named Fan during her life & if she has an heir of her body at her decease it shall be to it or them forever & if not to be equally divided between my children before mentioned. Item I lend to my daughter Frances Kimbrough one negroe girl named Rhoda during her life & if she has an heir of her body at her decease it shall be to it or them & if not to be equally divided between my children before mentioned. I do hereby constitute & appoint my sd. wife Frances Slaughter & my sons William & Henry Slaughter, my joint executors of this my last Will & Testament. I do hereby disallow, revoke & disannull all and every other former wills & legacies by me heretofore made and I do hereby constitute this my last will & testament.
