McElroy celebrated her ninety-seventh birthday on Monday, February 12, at the home of her eldest son, S. F., McElroy, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Her three living children are S. T. McElroy, J. E. McElroy and Mrs. Nathan M. Lankford, all present at the dinner served on the occasion. The event fell suitably on Georgia day for Mrs. McElroy, known and loved as “Granny” McElroy, is one of the pioneers of Georgia, having moved to Georgia from Pendleton, S.C., when 11 years old. Soon thereafter she joined old Prospect Methodist church, in DeKalb county, and has kept her membership there continuously, and is in all probability the oldest Methodist in Georgia, and bids fair to pass the 100th-mile post in life. Mrs. McElroy is in full possession of her faculties, and converses intelligently of the early events in Georgia history.
