W.M. Winn Lawrenceville, Ga., November 15 – The body of Rev. W.M. Winn, 77, Confederate veteran and Methodist minister, who died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.B. Sasser, at Decatur, Thursday night, was interred at the new cemetery here this afternoon at 3 o’clock, Lawrenceville Lodge of Masons officiating. He became a member of the Lawrenceville Lodge over half a century ago. He was the youngest son of the late Richard Winn, who was a prominent Gwinett County politician. Rev. Mr. Winn entered service in the civil war at the age of 16, serving with distinction until the surrender, after which he entered the ministry, serving charges in Georgia and Alabama for nearly 50 years. Besides many friends and relatives, Dr. Elam F. Dempsey and Rev. J.R. King accompanied the body to Lawrenceville. Rev. Winn is survived by two sons, Rev. E.S. Winn, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Fitzgerald, and W.A. Winn, of Decatur; a grandson, W.B. Sasser, of Decatur; a daughter, Mrs. H.B. Sasser, of Decatur; a brother, Colonel Thomas E. Winn, of Greensboro; five nephews, Colonel Courtland S. Winn, of Atlanta; W.J. Peeples, of Athens; R.L. Winn, of Atlanta; T.E. Peeples, of Gainesville, and Arch Peeples of Atlanta, and three nieces, Mrs. A.P. Cain, of Cincinnati; Mrs. John W. Chipley, of Athens, and Miss Minnie Peeples, of Lawrenceville. Winn, age 77, of 317 Sycamore street, Decatur, who died Thursday evening at the residence will be conducted this Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the First Methodist church of Decatur. Dr. E.F. Dempsey, Dr. J.R. King, Rev. G.M. Eakes and Dr. W.H. LaPrade officiating. Interment will follow in Lawrenceville, Ga. A.S. Turner, funeral director.
