The Rev. Terry Rice will officiate, with burial in Level Grove Cemetery. Mr. Fowler died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Oglethorpe County on July 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Alvin Edward and Doris Alford Gaines Fowler. Mr. Fowler was employed by Pepsi Cola with four years of service and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Wade Fowler of Cornelia; daughters, Telisha Fowler of Cornelia, Tammy Burgess of Atlanta; son, Billy Joe Fowler of Atlanta; stepson, Anthony Wade of Cornelia; sisters, Linda Holman of Jefferson, Vickie Fowler and Kathy Bryson, both of South Carolina; brothers, Jerry Fowler of Comer, Wayne Fowler, Noel Fowler, James Fowler and Bobby Fowler, all of South Carolina; half-brother, Matt Gaines Jr. of Madison County; and four grandchildren. Larry Long, 44, of Baldwin were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Level Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry Rice and Chaplain Pat Duran officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mr. Long died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness. Born in Stephens County on Nov. 9, 1957, he was a 1976 graduate of Habersham Central High School. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church, Cornelia Lodge No. 92 F&AM, the Mountaineer Shrine Club and Yaraab Temple in Atlanta. He was captain in charge of jail and road patrol with the Banks County Sheriff’s Department with seven years of service. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his father, C.R. Long. Survivors include his wife, Kathy McEntire Long of Baldwin; mother and stepfather, Faye Newsome Long and Vermon Wright of Cornelia; daughter, Mary Long of Commerce; son, Billy Long of Baldwin; stepsisters, Joy Echols of Lula, Jane Davis of Ellenwood; brother, Ronnie Long of Cornelia; stepbrother, Richard Wright of Forest Park; and one grandchild. Born in Fulton County, he spent much of his life in Stone Mountain prior to moving to White County in 1972. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Clarkston Masonic Lodge. Darvin Slaton officiated with burial in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Tiger. Mr. Tyler died Thursday, Aug. 8, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Rabun County on March 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Harve Pierce and Martha Smith Tyler. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Tyler; brother, Samuel Raymond Tyler; and sisters, Nancy Beasley and Fannie Mae Watts. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Demorest Church of God. Ernest Burns officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hamilton died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville. Born in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late W.G. and Gladys Scott King. She attended Cornelia Regional High School. Mrs. Hamilton was the owner of Lu Lu’s Place restaurant and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, André Hamilton. Survivors include her husband, Roy Hamilton of the home; son, James Douglas Hamilton of Powder Springs; sisters, Martha King, Everean King, Betty Browner, all of Cornelia, Ella Mae Chappell of Clarkesville; brothers, Eugene King, Thomas King, Johnny King, Anthony King, all of Cornelia, Matthew King of Toccoa; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Oma Stockton Hollifield Gunn Funeral services for Oma Stockton Hollifield Gunn, 86, of Demorest will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 30, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Payne and the Rev. John Humphries will officiate, with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Gunn died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at a private nursing home following an extended illness. Born in Macon County, N.C., on July 18, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Hattie McClure Stockton. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hoke Hollifield and William P. Gunn. She was retired from International Outerwear with several years of service. Mrs. Gunn was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas F. and Jane Hollifield of Clarkesville; and grandchildren, Michael Hollifield, Jeff Hollifield and Katie Hollifield, all of Clarkesville. A.D. “Joe” Lattanzi Piedmont College lost its No. 1 fan and one of its biggest boosters Tuesday with the death of A.D. “Joe” Lattanzi, following a brief illness. Lattanzi, 72, lived in Smyrna, but his heart was never far from the college where he played baseball as a student and met his wife, Peggy (Oliver). “Joe,” as he was universally known, was president of the Piedmont Letter Club and a former president of the Alumni Association. He was inducted into the Piedmont Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981, and in 1990 he received the college’s Alumni Service Award. A Bronx, N.Y., native, Lattanzi was employed by the Cobb County Board of Education for 31 years at Campbell High School as an American history teacher, a coach and assistant principal. The Campbell baseball field recently was named in his honor. A scout for professional baseball teams, Lattanzi was a Navy veteran and a court bailiff for the Cobb County Court System. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Smyrna American Legion Post No. 160, VFW Post No. 2681 in Marietta, Smyrna Golden K Club, and Smyrna First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joseph Dante Lattanzi of Smyrna, Ricci Oliver Lattanzi of Rome and Anthony Adair Lattanzi of Lula; one daughter, Gina Elvira Lattanzi of Germantown, Tenn.; one sister, Clara King of Calhoun; and seven grandchildren. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Cemetery in Demorest at 3 p.m. Earl J. Gorr Jr. Private funeral arrangements for Earl J. Gorr Jr., 67, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., were completed as per deceased’s last wish. Mr. Gorr died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Mr. Gorr was the son of Lillian Abenes, and brother of Russell E. Gorr and Kenneth J. Gorr of Demorest. Survivors include his wife, Jean Gorr; sons, Thomas Gorr, Geffrey Gorr; a stepson; and a grandson, all of Florida. Also surviving are sisters, Gladys Baker of Pennsylvania, and Caroline Teelon of Florida.
