Purcell HOMER – Funeral services for Charles E. Purcell, 73, of Homer were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Charity Baptist Church. The Rev. Vaughn Howington, the Rev. Larry Joe Wilbanks and the Rev. Billy Burrell officiated, with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Purcell died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Stephens County on Dec. 5, 1929, he was the son of the late C.C. and Addie Cash Purcell. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Charles Purcell; and brothers, Bill Purcell and Curtis Purcell. Mr. Purcell was formerly employed with Chicopee Manufacturing and was a poultry and cattle farmer most of his life. He was the owner of Purcell Backhoe and Dozer for 30 years. Mr. Purcell was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Wansa Whitfield Purcell of Homer; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Dale Ayers of Homer, Karen Ann and Chris Bolton of Homer; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Diane Purcell of Homer, Anthony and Tammy Purcell of Homer; sister, Loutrell Norton of Alto; brother, John Purcell of Cornelia; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.
