The Rev. Terry Rice will officiate with burial in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Haynes died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his residence following a sudden illness. Born in Hall County on Dec. 8, 1930, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served at the Panama Canal during the Korean Conflict. He had been in used car sales in Cornelia since 1947 and owned Haynes-Gailey Pontiac since 1971. Mr. Haynes was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Elrod Haynes; father, Gordon Lee Haynes Sr.; and brother, James Hulsey Wise. Survivors include his mother, Myrtle Wise of Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Haynes Hughes and Pete Hughes of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Buddy and Jan Haynes, Robin and Donna Haynes, all of Cornelia; fiancée, Jerri Bell of Toccoa, and her children, Elizabeth Bell Lee, Thomas Bell; brothers, John Broadus Wise, Drewery Loggins, Emory Loggins, Billy Thompson, Noah Thompson; sisters, Laverne Tumlin, Joyce Worley; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, from 7-9 p.m. today, July 9.
