Copeland Funeral services for Howard L. Copeland, 77, of Rex were held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 1, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Trent Smith officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Copeland died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Southern Regional Hospital in Riverdale following an extended illness. Born in Fox Hill, Va., on Dec. 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Howard L. Copeland Sr. and Mattie Spencer Copeland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wright Copeland; and brother-in-law, Amos Wright. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict and World War II. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church in Douglasville. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Ross Bryant of Rex; son, Ed Copeland of Kennesaw; brother, Carl Copeland of Yorktown, Va.; sisters, Bertha Sears, Molly Holloway, Harriett Carter, all of Fox Hill, Va.; brothers- in-law, Lawrence and Carvin Wright of Alto, Vermon Wright of Cornelia; sisters-in-law, Floyce Mallory, Lucille Rudeseal, both of Cornelia, Reba Lee Barry of Milton, Fla.; and grandchildren, Jamison, Mattie and Jenna Bryant. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.
