The Rev. Richard Scoggins officiated, with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ferguson died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at a private nursing home following an extended illness. Born in Habersham County on Sept. 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Edward and Georgia Hardy Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Furman University and was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and General Tire and Rubber Company until 1947. He was co-founder of Atlanta Commercial Tire Inc. until he retired in 1986 to pursue other interests. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Julia Harvill Ferguson; daughter and son-in-law, David and Carol Ferguson Coy; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Mary Ferguson; sister-in-law; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 770-952-1316, or to a charity of one’s choice. Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest was in charge of arrangements.
