Airy will be held at 3 p.m., today, July 2, in the chapel of McGahee- Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Luther Williams, the Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Warren T. Wilkinson will officiate, with burial in Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Norton died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta following a brief illness. Born in Stephens County on Jan. 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Hassie Eller Norton. He retired after 21 years as a master craftsman with Standard Telephone. Mr. Norton was a member of Soil and Water Conservation Service and a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Stella Burrell Norton of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Marsha Norton of Mt. Airy, Douglas and Sue Norton of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Dot Reed of Oakwood, Mildred Norton of Royston; and grandchildren, Christopher, Charles and Eric Norton. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, is in charge of arrangements.
