Stacey Funeral services for Michael L. Stacey, 52, of Hampton, Va., formerly of Cornelia, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, Va. Burial was in Peninsula Memorial Park. Mr. Stacey died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003. A native of Hampton, Va., Mr. Stacey lived in Cornelia for 25 years before returning to Hampton. He was a 1969 graduate of Hampton High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam. He loved the knowledge he gained from his love of reading books and was especially fond of science fiction. Mr. Stacey was proficient with computers, excelling in digital photography. He was previously employed with Cooper Vision in Chesapeake, Va. He was preceded in death by his mother, Montine Martin Stacey. Survivors include his son, Travis D. Stacey of Alaska; father, Albert B. Stacey Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Brian Hames of Poquoson, Va.; brothers, Christopher M. Stacey of Hampton, Va., Jeffrey L. Stacey of Georgia, Jonathan W. Stacey of Newport News, Va.; three nieces; two nephews; one great-niece; and one great-nephew. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 895 Middle Ground Boulevard, Suite 154, Newport News, VA 23606. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
